Longer Version:
Getting on-line with First Class:
There are two ways to connect using First
Class to receive and send email messages – using an Internet browser
(Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla) or by using downloaded client
software. Both methods are effective, but have a different look and
feel. I prefer
the client software if using you computer from home, but when I am away
and only have access to the Internet on another machine, I can use the
browser method from anywhere.
To install the Client Software:
Go to http://www.palantir.ca/Downloads on
the web and download the latest version of First Class (currently
version 8.3) for either
Windows (XP) or the MAC version. Install the software and restart
the machine. Start the client software and you will find File:home.fc at
the top of the Login dialog box. Click Setup. At the top, it should
read TCP-IP.FCP Where
it says Server: fill
in fc.stao.org Where it
says User ID: fill in the name you were given. Example D.Eberwein
Leave the Password:
empty and then click Save.
Alternatively, Click on this area marked home.fc and type Stao.fc and
then click the Setup button.
At the top, it should read TCP-IP.FCP Where it says Server:
fill in fc.stao.org Where it says User ID: fill in the name
you were given. Example D.Eberwein Leave the Password: empty and then click
Save.
To log on to First Class with the Client
Software:
Connect to your local ISP (Internet Service
Provider) using a DSL modem or Cable modem or 56K modem. Start the client
software Make sure that it says home.fc or alternatively Stao.fc at the
top in File: , enter your password and click Login. You will see your
mailbox and any other Conferences that you are entitled to view.

| You must manage your own workspace. Message will
not be deleted unless you delete them. In the future, your mailbox
may be limited in size. Attaching Graphics, PowerPoint Presentations
etc. uses large amounts of drive space. Please keep this in mind
and remove unnecessary messages periodically. Each Conference has
a Moderator (normally the conference chair). They have the ability
and responsibility to remove inappropriate messages or messages
that are no longer relevant to that conference. Passwords: cannot
be looked up. The administrator can only reset or change the password.
Once you have logged in, the Help Icon can be used get other forms
of information. |
